About Lorraine
Welcome. My name is Lorraine Elliott. I have been a practitioner of Systematic Kinesiology for seven years at Diploma level and have been teaching a Systematic “Balanced Health” foundation course since 2016. I also trained as an Anusara Yoga teacher in 2012 and more recently Yin Yoga in 2018. I have had a keen interest and huge passion for both since suffering with poor health for many years prior to finding Kinesiology. I believe Kinesiology saved my life!
Always having a keen interest in holistic healing I began my journey studying Reiki level I and followed that with Reiki level II in Thailand in 2007. I achieved a BA in Applied Social Care in 2009 going to work with teenagers in second chance education and eventually supporting adults with intellectual disabilities. I have since studied a wide range of complementary therapies including a Certificate at practitioner level in NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming. I have done extensive study of 14 modules of Essential nutrition and functional biochemistry in London with Chris Astall Smith throughout 2018. I also have attended numerous seminars on Hormones, genetics, understanding fats, digestive and gut health, Toxicity and fatigue with Alison Astall Smith and numerous workshops with Brian Miller in advanced structural techniques.
In 2019 I studied advanced neurobiology with Dietrich Klinghardt in Brighton. Additional studies include Neurokinetic Therapy level 1, Iridology with Helen Gensen in 2018, trained as a Smovey Health practitioner in 2018, and I have attended yoga and vipassana meditation workshops in Thailand, India, and many parts of Europe. I currently run my own healing studio where I teach weekly Yoga classes and work full time supporting clients back to full health through Kinesiology incorporating techniques from all of the above depending on the clients needs.
In 2022 I qualified as a Shamanic Practitioner.
My Story
I was very unwell for approx 4 years, I went to a range of doctors and specialists to no avail. I had gotten braces on when I was 29 and afterwards needed some fillings in my teeth. I had mercury poisoning from the fillings which my body struggled to detox. This caused a range of health issues...zinc is one of the minerals that assists in the removal of heavy metals. Zinc also supports the immune system, assists the thyroid to function properly and assists in making stomach acid. As I ran low in zinc from heavy metal toxicity, my thyroid could no longer function at its best resulting in weakness, tiredness, anxiety, heart palpitations and really low mood and shortness of breath (I ended up needing oxygen a couple of times). When my stomach acid went low my stomach was unable to break down food properly, resulting in digestive issues, constipation, over growth of fungus, bacteria and parasites (as there wasn't enough acid to break these down when ingested). Inflammation in the gut long term resulted in not absorbing minerals and vitamins properly and neurotransmitters not functioning properly. My body was a mess and I struggled for breath a lot and suffered with palpitations and anxiety. When at my worse, two specialists told me I was suffering from anxiety and the rest was all in my head. They were trying to treat me for an emotional problem that simply wasn't there. Eventually I found Kinesiology and never looked back.
I trained as a Yoga teacher in 2012 which was invaluable in guiding and teaching my body how to relax and soften through mindful breathing and gentle stretching. Finding Kinesiology was the key to returning to full health. Through the use of vitamins and minerals to detox my body and replenish lost nutrients I began to regain my strength, vitality and zest for life! I have never looked back!
I began to train on the foundation course where I got loads of answers as to why my body was experiencing Adrenal Fatigue and a wide range of symptoms. I continued onto diploma level as I was amazed at how I was starting to feel better and decided that I had to become a practitioner as people need to know that there is another form of health care available. One that gets to the root cause of the problem and actually works! Within 3 years of starting that journey I began to work for myself supporting people back to health. Then after a couple of years I trained as a 'Balanced Health' Course Leader teaching students the foundations of Systematic Kinesiology. I built my own studio three years ago where I see clients daily and teach weekly Yoga classes. This beautiful tranquil space, overlooking the Comeragh Mountains, is a treat for the soul and senses.
Lorraine believes in a whole body/mind approach to health and healing the body so it achieves a natural state of balance. Systematic Kinesiology focuses on this.
Systematic Kinesiology
Systematic Kinesiology is a fully integrated natural health care system which combines the knowledge of Chinese acupuncture theory of chi (energy that unites body and mind), modern chiropractic, nutrition and psychology. Systematic Kinesiology gets to the root cause dis-ease in the body. Kinesiology is the study of how muscles act and coordinate in the body. It's based on the science of energy balancing and combines a range of gentle but powerful techniques. Systematic Kinesiology looks at the health of the body as a whole, addressing not only what's going on with the physical body, but also the environment and the psychological state of each individual. Is uses the Mental (M), Chemical (C), Physical (P) and Energy (E) elements of a person simultaneously (MCPE). It is unique in it’s approach and it is not matched by any other modality.
Each muscle group is essentially related and connected to the circuits of certain organs. The technique of muscle monitoring/testing, gives direct biofeedback from the brain causing a change in muscle tone which is then used to investigate what may be causing imbalances in the body. The technique is used to treat a variety of disorders from pain, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, toxic overload to allergies, stress, trauma and emotional problems.
Mental/Psych
Chemical (nutritional)
Physical (structural/muscle)
Electrical/chakras
MENTAL
Throughout the treatment, techniques are used to observe any emotional issues that may be influencing the muscles or circuits negatively. For example, the large intestine circuit often holds grief/bereavement, loss and sadness. This emotion alone can be affecting the workings of the muscles on circuits such as the Hamstrings, Facia Lata muscle or Quadratus Lumborum.....resulting in back ache or large intestine/bowel problems. An emotional "fix" includes the holding of neuro vascular points on the head or body while the client thinks of the emotion this will increase the blood flow to the target area, releasing the stress and positively influencing that circuit. Often strengthening muscles alone! The use of Bach flower remedies, tapping meridian points, essential oils, crystals and affirmations may also be used.
CHEMICAL (Nutritional)
Nutritional assessment can include food intolerance testing, using biochemistry test kits with manual muscle testing to check for hormone imbalance, checking if the cells are making energy (ATP), the health of the organs, toxin overload, bacterial infections, virus's fungus/candida or parasites and digestive issues. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs and probiotics are often used to bring the above back into balance.
PHYSICAL (structural)
Assessment of the structural body includes muscle testing to ascertain where muscles may be out of balance (weak), hypertonic (too rigid) or reacting against each other due to long term postural misalignment. The whole skeletal system is assessed including cranial bones, TMJ (jaw), cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, sacrum, coccyx, hips and gait. A structural "fix" involves gently rubbing of lymphatic areas related to specific muscles in the body, realignment of the vertebrae, gentle movement of cranial bones or working on different accu-pressure points to stimulate and balance circuits.
ELECTRICAL
An electrical assessment often involves the testing of the chakras, meridian system, energy systems in the body to ensure the chi flow or life force energy is running smoothly throughout the body. Gentle holding of points on the acupuncture system or guiding energy with the hands above the body restores balance to these areas.
I would highly recommend Lorraine, she is a fantastic intuitive Kinesiologist and a lovely person!! I brought my 10 month old daughter to Lorraine as she had really awful eczema all over her body. The itch was so bad she barely slept at night, was always itchy and scratching and was generally miserable in herself. Lorraine identified what foods my daughter should avoid and what supplements she needed to help support her body. She helped with gut healing which was a key contributor to healing her skin problem. She also identified what creams could be used to soothe rather than irritate her eczema. We followed Lorraine's instructions and 6 months later the eczema had completely cleared and we had a much happier girl. Fast forward to 3.5 years old and she has perfect skin. She has the odd flare up but nothing that a trip to Lorraine doesn't sort. Thanks a million Lorraine, we are so grateful. Avril
How Kinesiology started
In the 1960s an American chiropractor Dr. George Goodheart developed a system of evaluating body functions by testing specific muscles. Most muscle testing is based on the work of Kendall and Kendall (1930s). Reflexes to improve lymphatic and blood flow were discovered by Drs Chapman and Bennett. Goodheart discovered that each muscle was related to an energy circuit and each circuit was connected to an organ. Additionally discovering that his findings mapped onto the chinese meridian/acupuncture system. Kinesiology aims to restore balance to four key areas of health - structure (muscular-skeletal), mental/emotional (psyche), biochemical (nutrition)and the meridian system (flow of energy throughout the body).
How Kinesiology works
Kinesiology taps into the bio feedback system that can be read through muscle responses. When the body is under stress, caused by factors such as trauma or nutritional deficiencies, it will block energy flow within the body. When this occurs the muscles reflect the stress in the central nervous system and causing specific muscle patterns. Kinesiologists use a process of gentle muscle monitoring to gain an insight into these muscle patterns and are able to assess how the body is functioning and can locate body imbalances. The process indicates whether stress is directly related to the muscle or is linked to a particular organ/gland or energy pathway.
Kinesiology reveals the body's overall state of structural, chemical, energetic and emotional balance, therefore treating a wide range of health issues. These may include stress, allergies and food sensitivities, nervous disorders, muscle, bone and joint pain, headaches, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, insomnia, and emotional issues and learning difficulties.
The International College of Applied Kinesiology describes Applied Kinesiology (AK) as a safe and non-invasive diagnostic system using muscle testing as a tool for evaluating neurological function. Systematic Kinesiology is derived from the teachings of Applied Kinesiology. The methodology focuses primarily on neuromuscular function as it relates to the structural, chemical and neurological regulatory mechanisms. Muscle testing assesses the impact of the nervous system on patient health, helping AK practitioners look for the source of disease in the balance of the sensory system with the motor system.Kinesiology in Ireland
Kinesiology was first introduced to Europe through the pioneering work of Brian Butler, in the form of Touch for Health. In 1982, he set up The Academy of Systematic Kinesiology in the United Kingdom. In 1995 he came to Ireland to teach a group here. Siobhan Guthrie was in that first Kinesiology Course (run at the time by Siobhan Barnes), and she went on to set up The Academy of Systematic Kinesiology (TASK) in Ireland in 2000. Kinesiology in Ireland has grown from strength to strength. I am delighted to now teach the foundations of Systematic Kinesiology the “Balanced Health Course” which I hold twice a year at my “Body and Soul Healing Studio” in South Kilkenny on the Waterford border.
